Mawa Gujiya ( मावा गुजिया) is a very popular sweet from the state of Gujarat, India. It is made from milk and sugar and is deep-fried. It is a special sweet of the festival of Holi. Learn how to make mawa gujiya step by step.

Gujiyas are a traditional Indian sweet that is made from maida flour ( refined wheat flour), sugar and ghee. There are many different variations of gujiyas, but the most popular one is the mawa gujiya. Mawa gujiyas are made by stuffing a mixture of mawa (a type of condensed milk), sugar and nuts into a flour dough, then deep-frying them in oil. They are best served hot and dipped in sugar syrup. It is a special sweet of the festival of Holi.

How To Make Mawa Gujiya Recipe

For Dough: Take a steel parat/thali, then put sieved All-Purpose Flour/Maida, a pinch of Salt, some Ghee in it and mix them all well. Add Water to it gradually and bind the tight dough. Cover it and keep it aside for 20-25 minutes.

For Filling: keep the pan for heating, add some Ghee, some Dry Fruits like- Almonds and Cashew Nuts to it. Roast them and take them out on a plate and finely chop them. In the same pan, add some Semolina and roast it first. then add some Khoya/Mawa, Desiccated Coconut and roast well. Then add some finely chopped Dry Fruits, Cardamom Powder, some Raisins to it. Mix well and keep it for cooling down. At last add, some Powdered Sugar, mix well and keep it aside.

For Gujiya: knead the Dough well, then cut it into equal pieces and roll it then put the filling in it. Apply some water on the edges and cover it, press it properly. Make a design with a fork and the Gujiya will get ready. Make all the Gujiya in this way and keep Oil for heating then put the Gujiyas. Then fry them in the medium heated Oil until they get golden in colour. In this way, Super-Tasty Gujiya will be ready to Serve and Enjoy them.

Ingredients For Making Holi Special 15 Min Mawa Gujiya Recipe(Mawa Gujiya)

For Dough:

  •   All-Purpose Flour/Maida – 2 Bowls/250 Gram
  •   Salt – 1 Pinch 
  •   Ghee – 1/4 Bowl
  •   Water – Less than 1/2 Bowl

For Filling:

  •   Ghee – 1 Spoon
  •   Fine Semolina – 3 Spoon
  •   Khoya/Mava- 1/4 Bowl/50-60 Gram
  •   Desiccated Coconut – 50-60 Gram
  •   Cashew Nuts
  •   Almonds
  •   Cardamom Powder- 1 Tsp
  •   Raisins – 1-2 Spoon
  •   Sugar Powder/Jaggery Sugar – 1/4 Bowl/6 Spoons
  •   Oil- For frying
